aff queen and i

Preparations for the visit of Queen Elizabeth The Second to Ireland gather yet more farcical pace.
Driving through Dublin, I espy groups of police officers with crow bars at various road intersections.
What on earth are they doing?
And lo!
There's more of them at the next junction.
And still more at the next.
Could it be Council road workers?
I take a careful gander.
Definitely cops.
The same thuggish bored disinterested arrogant expressions as Council workers but actually wearing overalls labelled An Garda Siochana.
Guardians of the Peace indeed.
Known colloquially as The Nyards.
But I digress.
Some of the nyards appear to have prised loose man hole covers.
They are peering blankly into the open drains.
The Irish Police Force at their finest.
I have no idea what this all means until my source in The Keystone Cops phones me.
The explanation is quite simple.
The cops are checking every manhole cover in Dublin in case Al Qaeda have left bombs there in order to blow up aff queen.
Now get this.
They're not rounding up Al Qaeda members.
No.
Al Qaeda black jacket street thugs are still patrolling Grafton Street and the city centre in overwhelming numbers.
They are the new power in the city of Dublin.
And the Keystone Cops are dealing with them by meditating on the contents of sewer drains.
The irony... is screaming.
